Acy Bellamy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jefferson Funeral Chapel - Alexandria on Feb. 9, 2026.
On Sunday morning, February 1, 2026, Acy Lee Bellamy passed away peacefully at home in Alexandria, Virginia, surrounded by his immediate family.

Born February 16, 1940, in Marianna, Florida, Acy was the beloved son of Willola Bell Herring and Evans Bellamy. In 1962, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for 23 years. His military career included adventurous tours in Turkey, Texas, Massachusetts, Long Island New York, and Washington, D.C. During his service, he earned a Master of Business Administration while working in law enforcement, personnel, and contracts administration.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1985 and settling in Virginia, Acy continued his professional journey in civilian roles with the U.S. Army, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, IBM, and the U.S. Postal Service. Known for his love of writing, cars, trees, and fine clothing, Acy will be fondly remembered for his presence, strong work ethic, generosity, and sense of style.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lillian of Alexandria; his children, Ingram of Alexandria, Ivan of Alexandria, and Irrsula of Lorton, VA; and his grandchildren, Sarah of Tennessee and Camryn. He is also survived by his siblings: Reverend Arthur Bellamy (Miriam) of Molina, Fla; John D. Herring of Cottondale, Fla; Maurice Herring (Lydia) of Germany; Vickie Bell (Michael) of Cottondale, Fla; and Sanders Herring of Cottondale, Fla; and sister-in-law Willie Mae of Bronx, NY; along with a host of extended family members and dear friends.

A wake will be held on Wednesday, February 11, at Jefferson Memorial Chapel in Kingstowne, VA at 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at a later date (details forthcoming). A link to the graveside service will be shared once available.

In honor of Acy's generous spirit and the careful attention gratefully provided to him during his final week, the family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to hospice care at:

Remembering his love and service, confession of faith, and baptism in the Church of Christ, may the Lord grant him heavenly peace.
