Law Jones Cremation and Funeral Care - Mt. CarrollAda Boyer, age 91, of Mt. Carroll, IL, passed away October 21, 2025, at Allure Nursing Home, in Mt. Carroll, IL. A memorial service will be held in her honor at Simply Free Church, 25460 Locust Rd., Lanark, IL on Saturday November 15, at 11:00 a.m. A memorial fund has been established.
Ada Boyer, born on May 11, 1934, in Pikeville, Kentucky, and raised in Rockford, IL, lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. At just 16 years old, Ada followed her heart to Arkansas, where she married Maynard Boyer in 1950. While an unconventional choice by today’s standards, it blossomed into a devoted marriage that lasted until Maynard’s passing in 2011.
Ada spent the first 16 years of their marriage as a homemaker, raising their four children. In 1976, she pursued her passion for helping others and earned her nursing credentials from vocational school. She went on to serve the community at Rockford Memorial Hospital for 18 years, where she formed lasting friendships with many of her colleagues.
A member of Simply Free Church from the church’s beginning, Ada’s faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, never missing a school play, recital, or game. Her social spirit and infectious laugh made her a beloved presence wherever she went.
As her children grew and left the nest, Ada and Maynard embraced their love of travel, frequently visiting Mexico and Las Vegas, where Ada’s lucky streak always seemed to hit. Even in her final years at Allure, she remained gracious, respectful, and full of joy, bringing smiles to those around her. Her years in nursing engrained in her a great sense of respect for her doctors and nurses; respect that was returned to her in kind, by the attentive and wonderful staff at Allure. Ada’s family wishes to extend a heart-felt thanks to all those who cared for her in her final years.
Ada will be deeply missed by her children, Linda (Lyle) Johnson, of Branson, MO, Sandra (Craig) Cannon, of Friendship, WI, Kelly (Glenn) Scott, of Lanark, IL, and Terry (Megan) Boyer, of New York, NY; Grandchildren: Leah (Tyler) Blaine, Luke (Germaine) Johnson, Chelsea (Brandon) Cain, Abbigail (Micah) Smith. Great Grandchildren: Addison Blaine, Lydia Blaine, Zoe Johnson and Noah Johnson. Beloved Sister and friend, Josephine Rackley, of Belton, TX; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Ada is preceded in death by her husband Maynard Boyer, and her parents, William and Ada (Fields) Meisel.
