Ada (Gibbs) Goodrich, of Canton, MA, passed peacefully on December 27, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston on January 24, 1929, she was the loving daughter of the late George and Mildred (Mann) Gibbs and the beloved sister of the late George and John Gibbs. She moved to Canton when she married the love of her life, William Goodrich, Jr, to whom she was married for 56 years before he passed in 2007. She was the loving mother of eight children: William III (Robin); Robert; David (Kathleen); Edward (Jane); Deborah (John); Scott (Susan); James (Rachael) and Susan (Scot). She dedicated her life to raising her children and became the matriarch of a large devoted family that eventually grew to include 27 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren (and counting). She served as a longtime board member for the Canton Recreation Department. Her efforts, in part, provided years of enjoyment for Canton residents with the 4th of July festivities. She also was an active member of the United Church of Christ, Canton. Ada enjoyed decorating her home for each season and holiday, proudly displaying her hand crafted ceramic creations. If you dropped by to visit her, you were invited to add some pieces to the jigsaw puzzle that was always in progress. No party was complete without her renowned clam dip. Ada was a lifelong New England sports fan. She loved vacationing on Cape Cod surrounded by all her family and would spend hours teaching the grandchildren how to play various card games. Ada was the hub of her family and she will be truly and deeply missed. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. CANTON Thursday January 4th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral service at the Congregational Church of Canton Friday morning January 5th at 11:00. Burial private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Canton Recreation Department at https://cantonma.myrec.com/info/activities/program_details.aspx?ProgramID=29220

I have had a front row seat watching the Goodrich Family ever since my sister Jane married Eddy over 40 years ago. Bill and Ada created a loving, rowdy, fun and extremely loyal family as parents to 8 children. Each one embodies the love, kindness and generosity they experienced growing up on Lexington St., as well as a few cuts and bruises. There were 6 boys. Watching them band together with their spouses and take care of Ada these last few months was so heart warming and certainly made their Father proud. Ada, you will be missed by all of us and not only for your clam dip. Job well done, may you rest in peace.
