Ada Gordon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Riposta Funeral Home - Belfast on Mar. 13, 2026.
Ada L. Gordon, 93, of Belfast, passed on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Andwell Hospice House, Auburn, Maine. She was born on August 20, 1932 in Belfast, daughter of Everett and Erna (Plummer) Gilmore.

She spent her childhood on a farm on the Bowen Road in Searsport with her parents, grandfather, 8 siblings and a cousin where they raised vegetables, animals, fruit trees and bees.

Ada was one of 12 students who graduated from Searsport High School in 1951. She delivered the Honor Essay at graduation as her older brother Rodney was Valedictorian of the same class.

She married classmate Charles Gordon in 1952 and together they raised three daughters in Belfast. She worked at a local insurance company after graduation and then at Penobscot Frozen Foods as Secretary. She was the voice on the telephone and the first person to greet people entering the office for 44 years.

Ada enjoyed family gatherings and most recently spending time with her twin great-grandsons. She loved to go for a ride in the Maine countryside just for the scenery or to find a lobster roll or ice cream.

Ada is survived by her children, Sandra Gordon (Hugh McLean) of Belfast, Donna Gordon (Mike Ashey) of Belfast and Twila Gordon Knapp (Dana) of Gray; five grandchildren Matthew Gordon Olson (Dr. Diana Soto-Olson) of New Orleans, LA, Heather Gordon of Bangor, Lynn Ashey Merek (Wade) of Tennessee, Zachery Knapp (Terri-Lynn) of Poland and Anna Knapp Whitney (Justin) of Gray; and 10 great grand-children, Remi, Dorian, Torren, Tice, Riley, Conner, Weston, Maxwell, Luke and Levi. She was predeceased by great granddaughter, Ariah.

Also surviving are her sisters Maxine Seekins of Belfast, Sharon Lamb of Winslow, sister-in-law Cathy Gilmore of Belfast, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Rodney, Everett Jr., Leonard, Kenneth, Paul and a sister, Ruth Hamm.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Searsport. A celebration of life will be held this summer. Memories and condolence may be shared on her tribute wall.
