Ada Rice Obituary

Ada Rice CHARLESTON - Ada Elizabeth Rice, also known as Betty, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024, at her home in Charleston, South Carolina, at the age of 87. She was surrounded by her family that she loved so much. She was born on March 21, 1936, in Charleston. Betty's greatest desire in life was to be a wife and mother, and to provide a loving home for her family. The legacy of love she leaves behind is proof of her achievement. Betty will be deeply missed by her surviving family members, including her daughter, Diane Rice Grummer (John), and her son, Mark Elsey Rice (Cindy). She was also cherished by her grandchildren, Melissa Wacaser (Jarred), Daniel Grummer, and Nathaniel Grummer (Gabrielle). Great-grandchildren, Rhett and Anna Wacaser, are among the many other relatives and friends that loved her and enjoyed spending time with her. The family would like to express deep appreciation to our cousin, Leah Sterbank, for all the care and medical support she gave to both of our parents over the years. Betty was preceded in death by her father, Asa Boyd Farr; mother, Mary Youngblood Farr; husband, Elrod Atmar Rice (also known as Red); daughter, Angela Rice Barrow; and sister, Joann Farr Bodenheimer. Betty found solace and inspiration in her faith and was an active member of Northbridge Baptist Church in Charleston. She took great delight in playing bridge and many other card games, which allowed her to connect with loved ones and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held in Betty and Red's honor at 11:00 AM on March 9, 2024, at Northbridge Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to Agape Liberia Mission at almission.org. Betty's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
