Addison L Marvin Jr. was born June 20 th 1934 in Steward Manor, Long Island New York. He was the oldest of two children. In his younger years, Addison spent his time in the Boy Scouts where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He then attended Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
While at Tufts he was a member of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Course and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Addison entered service with the Air Force on June 1, 1957, and graduated from Advance Pilot Training in July 1959, earned his wings, and was promoted to First Lieutenant.
Over the course of his military career, he was stationed at Otis AFB MA, Lajes AFB Azores, Keesler AFB MS, Dover AFB DE, Malmstrom AFB MT, Korat RVN in Thailand, Phu Cat RVN in Vietnam, Pease AFB NH, Offitt AFB NE. Addison served as a pilot, an electronics officer, and a missileer. While serving as a missileer in Montana, Addison earned his Masters in Aerospace Engineering. For his service in Thailand and Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star.
In 1961 while at home on leave he met his wife of 62 years, Carol Jane Rogers. They were married July 21, 1962. The next year they welcomed their first child Addison L Marvin III, followed two years later by their daughter Shirley Anne Marvin. Addison retired from the Air Force to Portsmouth NH after 20 years of meritorious service in 1977.
While living in Portsmouth, he worked as a computer operator at Philips Exeter. He then accepted an assistant professorship at the NH Technical School System and ultimately became a full professor. He retired for the second time in 1994. In his 30 years in Portsmouth, he purchased and remodeled a 300-year-old colonial farmhouse, which he and his family spent many hours renovating. While part of the Portsmouth community Addison took active roles in the US Power Squadron and became Commodore of the Navy Yacht Club and the Portsmouth Yacht Club.
In the late 1990's, Addison and his wife decided to retire to Florida, and spent the next few years as snowbirds, going back and forth between Florida and New Hampshire before permanently settling in Florida in 2002. While enjoying retirement in
Vero Beach, Florida Addison found and maintained many hobbies including stamp collecting, orchid cultivation, and an interest in the Rock and Gem Society. These hobbies kept him extremely fulfilled and engaged. Having led a full and interesting life, Addison followed his wife into the next adventure on November 3 rd, 2025.
He is survived by son Addison L. (Melissa) Marvin III and Shirley A. Marvin-Lambert, granddaughters Sydney (Hector) Meneses-Vera, Heather (Josie) Marvin, great grandson Benjamin Meneses-Vera, nieces and nephews.
He was laid to wife with his love, Carol (Rogers) Marvin on Monday, November 17, 2025, with military honors at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
