COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Adele Cherry Birdwell, who passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 surrounded by her daughters.
Adele Cherry Birdwell was born January 23, 1927 in Clay County, TN. Her parents were Orville and Ethel Cherry.
On July 5, 1944 she married Herod Birdwell, Jr. who passed away on March 6, 2010. They were happily married for 65 years. They enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. They also enjoyed their travels to all 50 states and several countries.
She was a teacher and guidance counselor for 30 years with the Clay county School system. She was a member of Collegeside Church of Christ.
She is survived by daughters, Phyllis (Bob) Birdwell from Cookeville, TN, Connie Arms from Celina, TN; grandchildren, Mike (Amanda) Birdwell, Scott (Julie) Lynn, Amy (Ron) Baker and Todd (Jennifer) Lynn; great-grandchildren, Graham (Abby) Lynn, Piper Lynn, Emma Baker, Stone Lynn, Anna Baker, Avery Birdwell, Oakley Lynn, and Hayden Birdwell; sister-in-law Ramona Cherry and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was affectionately known as Meme. Everyone that knew her loved her and she touched many lives. We were blessed by her presence. She enjoyed staying in touch with people by sending cards and talking to them on the phone. She prepared food and visited many people in their time of bereavement.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Arrol, Ralph, Newell and Kenneth Cherry; sisters, Ina Masters and Eva Plumlee and son-in-law Randall Arms.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Her family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of service. Interment will follow in the W. J. Cherry Cemetery in Arcot (Clay County).
