Adele Greene
Charleston - Adele Greene, 97, of Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 7, 2026. She was born on March 3, 1929, in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late John and Mary Stawiarski. Adele married the late love of her life, Joseph A. Greene, Retired U.S. Navy CWO, and they resided together in Wethersfield, CT; Williamsburg, VA; and Charleston, SC.
After Adele graduated from Morse School of Business and worked as a professional secretary, she became a homemaker and beloved mother to four children. In their retirement, Adele and Joe enjoyed many years of traveling and spending time with family. Adele was an avid reader, adventurous traveler, and prolific gardener. She will also be remembered for baking her delicious homemade pies.
Adele is survived by her four children and their spouses: Jack J. Zazzaro, DMD (Monique) of Southbury, CT; Lynn Z. Lewis (James) of Simsbury, CT; Peter Zazzaro (Bintou) of Boca Raton, FL; and Jane Zazzaro Lassiter, PsyD (Kerry) of Charleston, SC. Adele is also fondly remembered by her sister-in-law Phyllis Stawiarski and many cherished nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Mitchell Stawiarski and her first husband John J. Zazzaro, DMD. The family extends a special thank you to her outstanding in-home caregiving team over the past several years.
A private graveside service will be held for Adele at the Beaufort National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted online at mcalister-smith.com/.
