NORTH ATTLEBORO - Adeline Y. Allen, 90, of Broadway died Friday, January 28, 2005 in her home surrounded by the love of her family. She was the devoted wife of the late Albert L. Allen, Sr.

Born September 16, 1914 in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Gaetano and Anna (Leone) Tomassi. Mrs. Allen grew up in Providence and attended Providence public schools. She was married in 1938 and moved to North Attleboro in 1942. In 1977 she moved to Plainville and moved back to North Attleboro several years ago after becoming ill.

Mrs. Allen worked in the food service department of North Attleboro Public Schools for 22 years before her retirement in 1978 as the Food Cafeteria Manager of the North Attleboro Junior High School. She had previously worked part-time as a waitress for 10 years at the former Sandy’s Restaurant in Plainville while raising her family.

Mrs. Allen was an avid seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing bridge, knitting, crocheting and playing bingo. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her survivors include a daughter, Barbara Meyer, with whom she made her home; a son, Albert L. Allen, Jr. and his wife Evelyn of Dracut; a sister, Anna Santaniello and her husband, Albert of Centerdale, RI; five grandchildren, Lori Erickson and her husband Scott of Plainville, Scott H. Meyer and his wife Jodi of North Attleboro, Ronald A. Meyer and his wife Wendy of North Attleboro, Albert "Jay" Allen III and his wife Karen of Bedford, NH and Chery Matte and her husband Shawn of Manchester, NH.

Also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, Jarred, Kalegh, Shayna and Ronelle Erickson all of Plainville; Alyssa, Katie, Meaghan and Myranda Meyer of North Attleboro and Meghan, Cameron Pichette and Nicholas A. Allen of Bedford and Lauren and Rachel Matte of Manchester and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was mother of the late Doris M. Allen and sister of the late Albert and Vincent Tomassi, Mary Penta and Christina Sartaniello.

A funeral will be held from the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro on Tuesday at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, North Attleboro at 10 O’clock. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Providence.

Visitation is respectfully omitted.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Adeline’s memory to either Hospice of CVNA, 141 Park Street, Attleboro, MA 02703 or American Cancer Society, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.

I no longer live in North Attleboro but still read the Sun Chronicle and I was saddened when I saw the obituary for your mother.
