It was Saturday, October 19, 2024, that Adetokunbo (TK) Richard Orekoya was called to the Lord and put on his heavenly robe. Born on August 4, 1984, in Kansas City, Missouri, Tokunbo was the beloved son of Ademola Orekoya and Oluwatoyin (Okunuga) Orekoya. Tokunbo spent his childhood and school years in Columbus, Georgia, and Kansas City, Kansas. As the oldest of three siblings, he shared his childhood with his sister, Adenike, and brother, Adebowale Orekoya. His love for music and dancing blossomed during his time in high school, where he was a proud member of the F.L. Schlagle High School marching band as a baritone player. Tokunbo's passion continued into college as a member of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) marching band. In addition to his musical talents, Tokunbo also served his country honorably in the United States Army. Later, he made his home in Lawrence, Kansas, where he worked as a dedicated medical professional. Tokunbo had many passions, including reading, traveling, cooking, and enjoying 90's R&B music. He was known for his joyful spirit, kindness, and unwavering integrity. Tokunbo was a compassionate and honest person with strong moral principles, always bringing light to any room he entered. He was the life of the party, and whenever someone needed him, he was always there. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Tokunbo leaves behind his parents, Ademola and Oluwatoyin Okunuga-Orekoya; his sister, Adenike Orekoya-Komolafe; his brother, Adebowale Orekoya; nephews, Ayodele and Ayanfe Komolafe; and his goddaughter, Dettsinia Roche. A visitation service will be held on Saturday, October 26, at 10:00 AM, followed by a celebration of life memorial service from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Christ Community Church, 1101 Kasold Street, Lawrence, Kansas. Memorial contributions in Tokunbo's honor may be made to KU Medical Center research for asthma patients. Tokunbo will forever be remembered for his loving heart, joyful spirit, and dedication to family and friends. May his soul rest in peace. Topeka Chapel Oaks Cremation & Funeral Services is honored to serve the family.
