Adger's own words from the Hill Family Reunion 2006 I am Adger Murray Hill, the third child of Josephine Elizabeth and Robert Allen Hill, Sr., born on June 19, 1944, in Anderson, South Carolina. At a young age my parents moved north to Cincinnati, Ohio, and from there to Youngstown, Ohio, where I was raised and educated in the Youngstown Schools and graduated from South High School in June 1962. I was joined in holy matrimony with Brenda Revis on May 23, 1977. Our union produced four children: Valisha, Zynan Sr., Ashanti and Frances; eleven grandchildren: Denisha, Darr-Ell, Ronnell, Zynan Jr., Jayden, Adryan, Ashawna, Keylana, Tyric, Zoey and Allen; and great-grandchild: Nashyla. I began working early in my youth, starting with a paper route for Youngstown Vindicator, then with my brother Bob at Riblet Bowling Lanes. I worked during my high school years and upon graduation I joined the Marine Corps. During my first tenure I was stationed at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina. I received a transfer assignment out of Boot Camp to Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I was also assigned to assist in the evacuation of American citizens during an uprisal in the Dominican Republic. I spent a six-month tour of duty in the Mediterranean and an eleven-month tour in Adak, Alaska. I received various medals and commendations for excellence as a Marine "Sharp Shooter'' and "Expert Rifle Marksman" for 3 years in a row. I was elevated to instructor at the NCO training academy. I left the Marine Corps as an honorable discharge in 1966 and returned to Youngstown. I began working for Aeroquip Rubber Company where I was promoted to shop foreman. I worked there for several years while saving to open my own business. That opportunity presented itself when I was hired as a Dealer/Owner for Clark Oil and Refinery Company. I owned and operated my service station for three years; it was located at Albert and McGuffey Roads in Youngstown. I rejoined the Marines in 1971 and spent a term of 13 months in Okinawa. I was later assigned to Vietnam to evacuate American citizens. I achieved the ranks of staff sergeant. When I returned back home, I had an offer to manage Kings department store and was subsequently transferred to its division in Niagara Falls, New York. During a vacation trip to Oklahoma City in 1979, I returned back home and decided to move my family there. I ventured into the insurance business with a company named AL Williams (today known as Citi Financial) where I was promoted to Regional Vice President. During the same time frame I also began working in the Recreational Vehicle industry and worked my way up from craftsman to Service Manager within one year. I retired from the RV business in 2003. My two favorite pastimes were fishing and bowling, the latter of which became extra income, as I was able to increase my skill to the point of bowling in paid tournaments. My aspiration was to bowl professionally however I was unable to secure a sponsor. My bowling average per game was 206. In 1992 I relocated my family to Texas where we remain today. My favorite scripture passage is Psalm 121:1-2 - "I will lift up my eyes to the hills - from whence cometh my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth." Adger was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Josephine Hill; his sister, Joann Olverson; his brother, Qaiyim Abdul Raheem (Ruben Hill); his father-in-law, JW Revis; four brothers-in-law: Richard Spencer, Joseph Aiken, Sr., Lloyd Richard Revis and James Dannals; and a granddaughter, Ashawna.
