Adib Z. Ghattas, a dedicated professional engineer and beloved member of his community, passed away peacefully on 4/9/2025 at the age of 86.
Born on October 28, 1938 in Egypt, he immigrated to the USA to pursue a better life for his future wife (Dr. Nadia Ghattas, who pre-deceased him) and family. He earned his Master's degree in Civil Engineering from Polytechnic University and went on to achieve his Professional Engineer (PE) license, a testament to his expertise and commitment to his field. After a long and accomplished career with the NY department of buildings, he joined an independent firm forming Duke and Ghattas Associates. Beyond his professional achievements, Adib was a devoted father and devout Christian. He was also an active member of the Coptic Association, volunteered his time to St George and St Shenouda Church where he served in many facets, including offering his engineering services to renovate the church's parking deck; serving the church brought him great joy and pride.
He is survived by his eldest daughter Caroline Moskofian and her husband Nichan, youngest daughter Diana Ghattas, youngest child Michael Ghattas and his wife Angela along with his beloved grandchildren, Jacob Moskofian, Luke Ghattas and Nadia Grace Ghattas who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service to celebrate Adib's life will be held on Thursday April 10, 2025 at 10am at St. George and Shenouda Coptic Church, 835 Bergen Avenue, Jersey City, NJ, 07306. Entombment will follow at Rosedale Mausoleum, Linden, NJ. Following the burial, all are welcome to join the family for a final prayer and meal at the Church Hall located at 861 Bergen Avenue. Respects to the family can also be paid from 6-8PM on April 10th at St. George and Shenouda Coptic Church, 835 Bergen Avenue, Jersey City, NJ, 07306.
His memory will be forever cherished.
