Adolph Lee Branche, affectionately known as Lee, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by his loving family.
Lee will be remembered by his family as the most selfless man they have ever known. His sons-in-law often said Lee never spoke of himself first-he lived in service to others. Whether as a father, educator, or friend, Lee's quiet strength, thoughtful words, and unwavering kindness made a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Born on July 30, 1942, to the late Mildred and Eloy Branche, Lee lived a life defined by service, dedication, and gentle integrity. Lee loved his country. He proudly served six years in the United States Air Force and later devoted over 30 years to shaping young minds as an educator with the Camp Lejeune Department of Defense Schools.
Lee's life was a testament to purpose, generosity, and enduring faith. He was a beloved mentor, friend, and family man whose calm demeanor and commitment to learning uplifted all who knew him.
He leaves behind the love of his life of 52 years, Barbara Lee of Jacksonville; his daughters, Adrienne Lee Matthews and husband Russ of Charlotte, and Christina Lee Stroff and husband Mike of Uvalde, Texas; and his cherished grandchildren: Caroline Lee, Kate Lee, Amelia Lee, and Michael John.
Teachers who worked alongside Lee often said he was the light of the school. He was known for his ever-present smile, steady leadership, and the quiet, consistent ways he looked out for those around him. One of his well-loved traditions was calling a "Plan B" day-his subtle way of granting grace and relief to fellow teachers. It was an unspoken understanding, shared only among teachers, and remains one of the things he will be most fondly remembered for.
Sports were an important part of Lee's life. He made many friends playing basketball, raquetball, tennis and pickleball. He also loved to ride his bike around Jacksonville and do "God's work" in his yard.
A celebration of Lee's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Gentiva Hospice in New Bern.
The family offers special thanks to the care givers at Truewood of New Bern for their compassion and support during Lee's time of care.
