Adolph Cherry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Doolittle Funeral Home on Feb. 2, 2026.
On January 27, 2026, the sunset and Adolph Cherry were called to eternal rest. Adolph Cherry was born on September 19, 1954, in Bertie County, NC to the late Dennie Lee Cherry Sr. and Ellen (Wilson) Cherry. He later moved to Connecticut where he built his life and became deeply rooted in the Middletown community.

Adolph dedicated over 40 years of his life to American Concrete, working in construction. It was more than just a job for him; it was his passion. He took pride in his hard work and dedication, and he's known for his strength, reliability and unwavering work ethic.

Adolph loved to watch tv, and Maury was his go to. He had a passion for cooking a lot of southern soul food, chopped BBQ and Oxtails because Aunt Irene would make sure, he had a freezer full of greens. He was truly a good man and well known throughout the town. He also gave anyone he encountered a nickname.

He was known for his smile and laughter. He also had a feisty side, but he had a unique way of making everyone feel loved. He always had a story to tell even if he had to stretch the truth to keep the conversation going. If you knew Adolph, you knew exactly what that meant. Family was everything, he cherished and loved his nephews, but it was something about his nieces, he had a soft spot in his heart for all of them. He found his profound love with his great nieces, great nephews and all his grandchildren. He spent lots of time enjoying precious moments. All of them brought great joy.

Above all, he shared 54 beautiful years with his lifelong partner and the love of his life, Eva Bonewicz, who loved him dearly. Their bond was deep and everlasting, it was filled with compassion. She loved him wholeheartedly though sometimes she would have to keep him in line. Adolph also held deep affection for his Aunt Irene White, who he spoke with often. He shared a special bond with Joan Bonewicz, who he called his sister-in-law. He was blessed with close friends, Greg White, Larry Parker, Michael Malcolm, Billy Boy, and David Fountain.

Along with his parents, Adolph was predeceased by two brothers, Windell Cherry and James Cherry, two nieces, Marva Cherry and Miranda Cherry, and one nephew, Alexander Cherry.

He is survived by his love partner Eva, his sisters Emma Cherry and Marie Cherry of Hexlena, NC. He has a sister named Diane Cherry of Englewood, NJ and Dorothy Cherry of Norfolk, VA, four brothers, Dennie Cherry Jr (Skeet) of Elizabeth City, NC, Matt Cherry of Englewood, NJ, Darnel Cherry (Betty), and Charles Cherry both of Powellsville, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.

Adolph loved his hats. When you're reminded of him, take off yours and honor his memory.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6th at 11:00 am at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 346 Butternut Street, Middletown. Burial will be at a later date. Family and friends may call before the service at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 am. To share memories or send condolences to the family, please visit www.doolittlefuneralservice.com.

Adolf one of the kindest souls I´ve ever met. He worked with my son´s Johnny and Timmy had American concrete for a long time and was always kind to them and to our family always had a smile on his face. He walked like he was constantly dancing. He truly was a person that loved life. He certainly left some footprints on my heart rest in peace, buddy.
