Funeral services for Dr. Agnes Lee Spikes Cason, of
Dublin, Georgia, a beloved member of her community who was affectionately called "Red", will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 11 AM at the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, 494 Evergreen Road in Dublin. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Agnes Lee Spikes was born on Wednesday, February 20, 1946, in Laurens County, Georgia, to the parentage of Deacon Robert Spikes, Sr., and Annie Mae Spikes. Sister Agnes Lee Spikes graduated from Millville School in 1966, and in the same year, married her love, Harvey Lee Cason, Sr. She joined the Springhill Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Reverend C. P. Roberts, and she served as an usher for many years. Sister Cason also served at the New Fleming Baptist Church of Bartow, Georgia, as an usher and Youth Sunday School Teacher under the leadership of Dr. C. L. Cason. She loved to sing, especially old hymns out of the National Baptist Hymn Book and could "raise" them as well as a deacon!
Red was a hard worker and worked at Mohawk Industries, and was a substitute teacher, a bus driver, a licensed Master of Cosmetology, and was a professional caterer. She loved cooking big dinners, and she was constantly trying to feed any and everyone she met, especially during holidays. It brought her joy to see people eat and have a good time.
Dr. Cason, along with her husband, the late Dr. Rev. Harvey Lee Cason, Sr., owned and operated Cason's Boutique Clothing Store and Cason's Unique Touch Salon in downtown Dublin.
Being guided by a deep desire to learn and serve the church, she pursued higher biblical education later in life. She earned her Biblical Studies Diploma, Bachelor of Christian Education, Master and Doctor of Christian Counseling and a Doctor of Theology from the Tripp Bible Institute in Marion, North Carolina; Master of Science in Christian Education and Doctor of Christian Counseling Psychology from the Emmanuel Baptist University in Connelly Springs, North Carolina; and then a Master of Ministry from the Cason Theological Institute of
Dublin, Georgia.
Dr. Cason served on the board of advisors for the Cason Theological Institute for 19 years, helping to advise and lead the seminary. Her academic journey reflected her dedication to spiritual growth in Christ Jesus, and she will be remembered for her Christian faith, many talents, down home cooking and a great natural determination.
Dr. Cason passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at her home. Dr. Cason was preceded in death by her parents, Deacon Robert Spikes, Sr., and Sister Annie Mae Miller Spikes Stanley; husband, Rev.
