Agnes Irene Cheek passed away peacefully at her home in Burlington, Washington on April 18, 2025. She was 97. Born on November 28, 1927, in Isabel, South Dakota, Agnes lived a long and full life marked by deep faith, creativity, and devotion to family. She was a kind, generous, and gentle soul who touched the lives of all who knew her.
Agnes moved to Sultan, Washington during childhood and graduated from Sultan High School in 1945. On December 2, 1949, she married Clayton M. Cheek. Together they built a home filled with warmth and love until Clayton's passing in 2007. Their home was always a place that brought people together and where lasting memories were made. From Christmas morning brunch, to easter egg hunts, and a kitchen that was always stocked with candy for grandkids to snack on when no one was watching. She dedicated her life to family and was very proud of her role as a mother, and eventually grandmother and great grandmother.
Giving back to her community was very important to Agnes. She spent many years as the Skagit County Elections Supervisor for the Skagit County Auditor's Office. Agnes looked forward to her volunteer time at Skagit Valley Hospital's Gift Shop and Dietary Service. Her commitment and dedication to her local community will always be remembered. As a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Agnes found joy and purpose in her spiritual community. Her faith was a guiding light in her life.
Along with her faith, Agnes found joy in spending time with her family and pursuing many hobbies. She was known for her intricate latch hook rugs - each one a true testament of her love for others. Loved ones cherished the dedication and attention to detail that was put into each rug she made. Agnes also enjoyed traveling. Along with her husband, Clayton, she took many trips to their time share in Mazatlan, Mexico and to their family camp site in Twisp, Washington. She enjoyed making memories with Family in Mexico, hiking in the beautiful sunflower meadows near Twisp, enjoying ice cream in Winthrop, Washington, and walking through the farmer's market in Twisp. Another joy that loved ones will always remember about Agnes, was her passion for baking. From wading through prickly blackberry bushes with her grandchildren to making the pie crust from scratch, every pie Agnes made was a true labor of love. Her homemade pies brought comfort and delight to friends and family alike.
Agnes is preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Irene Weber; siblings Lavern Weber, Edwin Weber, and Alvina Hereth (Weber); and beloved husband, Clayton Cheek. She is survived by siblings Natalie Hansen (Weber) and Harlan Weber; children Clayton and Debra Cheek, Natalie and Marv Hunskor (Cheek), and Myron and Monica Cheek; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren. All of whom will remember Agnes' love for life and the people she surrounded herself with.
A Celebration of Life for Agnes will be held at the home of her youngest son, Mike, on Saturday, June 14th, 2025 at 1pm. In remembrance of Agnes' life, memorial donations can be made to Seattle Children's Hospital or your favorite charity.
Agnes's legacy lives on through the generations she has nurtured with through love, laughter, and pie crusts made from scratch.
She will be deeply missed.

Mike and family, sorry to hear about your mom. She certainly was part of that network of Trinity mom's that exhibited support and an example of Jesus's love to us younger punks! She was quiet, but she could give you the look.
Peace and love to you all.
