Virginia Heyward McDaniel, 83, of Columbia, died on Monday, August 19, 2024. She was born on April 25, 1941 in Monetta, SC, and was the daughter of the late Holley Ware Heyward and Janie Pearl Brown Heyward. Mrs. McDaniel was a loving homemaker for much of her life. She also worked for Hammond Academy and was affiliated with the Palmetto Performing Arts dance academy.
Mrs. McDaniel enjoyed spending time at the beach with her life-long girlfriends, afternoon social gatherings with her 42 Magnolia Circle group, and most of all, attending sporting events and performances watching her grandchildren. She also spent time creating needlepoint belts for those that she loved.
Survivors include her husband, George Levi McDaniel; son, George Dean McDaniel (Jeannie); daughter, Michelle McDaniel Littlejohn (Michael); grandchildren, Michael McDaniel Littlejohn, McCollum Heyward Littlejohn, Holland Wardlaw McDaniel, Avery Ware McDaniel, George Wright McDaniel, Raymond Lester Littlejohn; siblings, Holley Ware Heyward, Jr. (Marilyn), and Terry Dean Heyward (Eddie); as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Stevens Culbreath, Jr.
The service for Mrs. McDaniel will be held at 4 o'clock, Sunday, August 25th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with Rev. Bill Bouknight officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Beloved friends, Freeda Wood, Norma Thompson, Ann Laney-Abercrombie, Ava Campbell and Carolyn Peake will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to Palmetto Baseball League or Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Virginia was a dear college friend who was so loved by me and many others. Loved her sense of humor and laugh.I am just now finding out that she passed away.
She will be so missed.
