Ajanae Elise Massenburg

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our daughter Ajanae Elise "AJ" (Callsign Gloss) Massenburg, age 19, of Baltimore, Maryland. She passed away Friday, December 12, 2025, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born May 5, 2006, at Langley, Air Force Base.
She was a bright light and vivacious spirit, known for her infectious smile, kind spirit, tenacity and determination. Ajanae grew up in a loving environment, where she developed a passion for acting, singing, and music. Her talent was evident to all, and she thrived in every performance, captivating audiences with her unique flair and charisma. Whether the performance was singing or acting she always took the chance to do it and gave it her all. She went so far as to study theater during the summer at UCLA and USC to further sharpen her skills. She also enjoyed competition of all sorts, playing soccer, basketball, competitive cheer, and running track.
She was a military dependent who spent her childhood literally all over the world. She lived and went to school in North Carolina, South Korea, California, Virginia, and Brazil. She excelled in academics and sports wherever she went.
She gave her life to Christ as a young child and was raised in the church throughout her global travels, with her last membership being at Grace Church of Dumfries, VA.
Ajanae's life is celebrated by her parents, Patrick and Kyla Massenburg, her biological mother Melanie Carter, her sisters, Danae, Sophia, and Audrey Massenburg, her paternal grandparents, Dwane and Sophia Massenburg, her maternal grandparents Walter (Lonnie) Kelsey and Debra Boone and her biological maternal grandparents James and Betty Carter, along with a host of aunts uncles, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan Road, Woodbridge, Virginia.
The family is asking that in lieu of flowers to please make a donation to the scholarship being set up in her honor at the at Instituto de Bela Artes (The Institute of Fine Arts) in Brasilia, Brazil. More information can be found on their Instagram page at @institutodebelaartes
