Weiss, David "Fuzz"
SLINGERLANDS - David "Fuzz" Weiss, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, at the Eddy Village Green, at Beverwyck. He was born in Philadelphia, the son of the late Esther and Morris Weiss.
In 1970, David married the love of his life, Susan Weiss, after meeting her in a Hebrew class, the start of a partnership that spanned more than five decades. Together, they raised three children, Miriam Goldman (Samuel), Benjamin Weiss (Tanja Bosak), and Jonathan Weiss (Marilyn), who will carry forward his love of learning, humor, and deep commitment to family. David was the proud grandfather of four grandsons, Noah Goldman, Avi Goldman, Elie Weiss, and Aaron Weiss, who brought him immeasurable joy. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy (Robert) Benjamin; nephews; and extended family.
A lifelong scholar, David earned his bachelor's degree from Penn State University and a master's degree in geography from UC Berkeley. He went on to devote 31 years of his career as a transportation planner with the New York State Department of Transportation, where he brought intelligence, practicality, and vision to his work.
David's interests were wide and deeply held. He loved classical music, reading extensively about World War II, and creating beautiful silkscreens and woodcut artwork. A devoted reader, he consumed The New York Times voraciously, always eager to stay informed and engaged with the world. A devoted soft pretzel enthusiast, he even named the family Labrador, "Pretzel," in honor of his favorite snack. He also loved to travel, whether on a mission to Russia to support Jewish Soviet Refuseniks, journeys through Asia and Europe, vacations in Hawaii, or countless cherished trips to Cape Cod with his family.
He spent his later years at The Beverwyck, where he built friendships, shared his humor, and continued to pursue his love of books and music. Those who knew him will remember his sharp mind, devotion to family, and the quiet beauty of the art he left behind.
A funeral service will be held at Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave., Albany, N.Y., at 11:00 a.m., on Sunday, September 14. Interment and burial will take place at Montefiore Cemetery, 600 Church Road, Jenkintown, Pa., at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, September 15.
