Alan Amen Obituary

Alan Charles Amen, 70, met his awaiting family members in Heaven on Thursday May 8th, 2025, in Loveland. He was born on May 17th, 1954, to David and Lillian Amen.
His childhood years were spent learning how to care for the family farm from those who had done it before him. In 1972 he graduated from Merino High School and after working a factory job for a brief time, he decided his primary focus would be farming and ranching. A career choice that he always reflected on as "I have never worked a day in my life because I am doing what I love". In addition to the family farm, he had the pleasure of working with a neighboring rancher for a few years. This neighbor had an additional appeal to our Dad, he used to run racehorses. Dad enjoyed all the special time he spent with this neighbor caring for cows and hearing his stories about all the years he ran racehorses. Dad had a soft spot in his heart for all animals, but horses were his favorite.
Alan married Christa Hobson and together they had three children Tara, Shane, and Ashley. As much as Dad loved taking care of the family farm, his largest blessing and "greatest accomplishment" was his three children. From the time they were big enough, they were riding in the tractor with him. When the kids were little, he adjusted the size of a bean bag so it would fit behind the seat of the tractor so they could tag along. When they were old enough for 4-H, every project was supported, even the sheep and goats that he swore he would never own. Some of the fondest memories were of the weekend rodeo trips. On any given summer weekend, the family was loading the trailer to travel to a rodeo or barrel race in a neighboring town. Dad was the biggest cheerleader and could often be found with a video camera recording and brushing the horses when their work was all done. His kids shared his deep love for all animals and lived by the rule that "the animals come first". Over the years there were many, many, animals brought home by the kids, cats, dogs, llamas, and even a yak. Each had their own story and adventure. He was not known for saying "no" right off the bat, but rather "let us see if we can swing it" whenever any of the kids had a new idea.
Dad was a man of few words and if you knew him for a few years you may have been able to understand him. In his time on Earth, he taught his three children everything they need to know to live this life well and a work ethic to achieve their goals. Even as his three kids became adults, he remained the center of the family that held everything together. They all knew that Dad had all the wisdom and was just a phone call away.
The last few years Dad experienced a new adventure, "Grandpa". He loved being a Grandpa, and always said it was his chance "to see you kids little all over again". They will cherish the time they had with him sharing Pepsi, candy, giggles, and always a can of Altoids.
Our Dad leaves big shoes to fill and will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved him. We know that he would not want us to waste too much time feeling sad but would want us to smile at the good times and never forget everything he taught us.
Alan is survived by his three children, their spouses, and his grandchildren. Tara, Braden, Addie, and Kinsley Piel; Shane, Kathy, Laurie, Lane, and Lily; Ashley, Jeramiah, and Baby Ky, arriving in August. His sisters Marilyn (Kenny) Rhodes, Karen (Raymond) Couch, and brothers David and Gary Amen. He was proceeded in death by his parents, grandparents, granddaughter Alita, and nephew Doug Couch.
A private service will be held at a later date.
