Alan Brooks was born on March 1, 1940, in Clarion, Iowa, to Hazel and Edgar Brooks. The youngest of their children, Alan was raised in a warm and loving home, surrounded by a large extended family that remained dear to him throughout his life. His nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart.

Alan graduated from Clarion High School and went on to serve his country with pride in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he moved to California, where he made his home for the rest of his life.
