As president of the company, he relocated the dry cleaning and laundry operation to Chestertown while maintain the Kingstown location for rug cleaning. He took great pride in the business and was always seeking ways to improve it. In 1968, he expanded the business to include floor coverings and later moving that division back to Kingstown after selling the dry-cleaning business to Admiral Cleaners of Annapolis. Keeping the business in the family, Alan's grandson, Bob Schauber, purchased the Kingstown operation, now known as Chesapeake Family Flooring. They shared several joyful years of travel and companionship until Penny's passing on May 31, 2020. On December 14, 2024, Alan married Cedalia Shute. Together they enjoyed a special time filled with laughter and a shared love of music, faith and dear friends.
