Alan H. Dahms, 76, of St. Edward, NE passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Genoa Community Hospital – LTC. Graveside Services will be 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Evergreen Cemetery, St. Edward, NE with Rev. Vern Olson officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Crosier American Legion Post #226 of St. Edward, NE and the Army Funeral Honor Guard. Miller-Levander Funeral Home of St. Edward, NE is in charge of arrangements. Alan Herman Dahms was born August 20, 1948, in Hastings, NE to Harold and Goldie (Hartman) Dahms. He grew up on a farm west of Blue Hill, NE. Alan graduated from Blue Hill High School with the class of 1966. After high school, Alan worked for Rose & Kumke Construction and also joined the US Army Reserves. In May 1968 his reserve unit was called to active duty. After spending time at Fort Carsen, CO, his unit was deployed to Chu Lai, Vietnam. He received an Honorable discharge with decoration from active duty in July 1969. The decorations awarded to Alan included NDSM, VSM, I O/S Bar, MKM M-14 and SPS N-16. Upon returning to Blue Hill, he farmed with his dad. He later went on to work for Burr Land Leveling and Delay Construction as a heavy equipment operator. Alan later formed AD Construction. On March 14, 1992, Alan was united in marriage to Lyla Engstrom in Hastings, NE. The couple lived in Hastings before they made their home in St. Edward, NE. Alan and Lyla loved spending time with their dogs, Cuddles and Rusty, as well as enjoying their vacations together in Estes Park, CO. Alan was a member of the Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. Alan is survived by his wife of 33 years: Lyla Dahms of St. Edward, NE; three children: Adam Dahms of Omaha, NE; Angela Tewfik of Florida; Trevor Dahms of Hastings, NE; stepson: Jason Peterson; grandchildren: Tyler Dahms, Yousef, Hassan, and Soraya Tewfik; Destiny, Justice, Jayden Peterson; sister Linda Buth of Chadron, OH; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
