Mary Sarah Roberg, daughter of Ted and Alma (Rohrer) Bennett, was born on September 9, 1938, in rural Madison, Nebraska. She was baptized at the Methodist Church and later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Albion.
Mary began her education at Madison Public School and District 67, later graduating from Newman Grove High School with the class of 1956. She continued her studies at Wayne State College for two years.
On Christmas Day, 1959, Mary was united in marriage to Aldon Roberg. The couple lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, while Aldon served in the military. After his discharge, they settled on a farm south of Tilden where they raised two sons. Mary worked as a teacher in rural schools before becoming the activities director at Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home. In 1997 Mary and Aldon moved to Newman Grove.
Mary faced loss early in life, as her mother passed away when she was 14 and her father passed away four years later. She and siblings helped care for their two younger brothers, an experience that shaped her deep sense of family.
Faith and service were central to Mary's life. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Newman Grove, joined Immanuel Zion in 1961, and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in 2000. Over the years, she served her church and community in many ways: teaching Sunday School and Bible School for 24 years, serving as treasurer and secretary of Ladies Aid, serving as a 4-H leader and participating in Extension Club, Red Hats, and Rocket Club. She also volunteered as a "chemo angel," sending letters and gifts of encouragement to cancer patients.
Mary had many talents and hobbies, especially quilting, sewing, and reading. Her love of fabric was well known among family and friends. She cherished summer time spent with her grandchildren and creating memories at family gatherings.
She is survived by her two sons: Jim (Jan) Roberg of Grand Island, NE, and Greg (Karen) Roberg of Gretna, NE; five grandchildren: Aaron (Cali) Roberg, Hannah (Jake) Dobrovolny, Seth (Lauren) Roberg, Lindsey (Caleb) Sandall, and Kailey Roberg; six great-grandchildren: Reggie and Ryder Roberg; Brecken and Kaiden Dobrovolny; Rylan and Kovey Roberg; brother: Rolley Bennett of
Newman Grove, NE; sisters-in-law: Carolyn Evans of Albion, NE; Mildred (Colin) Koeppen of Albion, NE; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband: Aldon; her siblings: Lois Smutney; Rollen Bennett; Arnie Bennett; Ted Bennett; Larry Bennett; and Edith Finkral.
Mary will be remembered for her faith, compassion, and devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and treasured memories.
