Ivan Sylvester Gaspers was born on March 18, 1937, on the family farm near Lindsay to Martin and Regina (Heimann) Gaspers, the third of 7 children. He graduated from Lindsay Holy Family High School in 1955. He served in the Army from December 1956 to October 1958, spending most of that time in Korea as part of the peacekeeping forces. He was involved in his local community, serving as president of both the Platte County Cattlemen's Association and the Lindsay Holy Family School Board.

He was married to Kathleen M. Oberhauser on August 24, 1960, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay. Ivan farmed and fed cattle for over 60 years, first with his dad and brother Dennis, and then with his son Bill. Like his brother Merle, Ivan liked to tell stories about his childhood on the farm, at the center of which was the Catholic faith and traditional Midwest values. He had a special love for the land and its stewardship, and an interest in history and cultures from around the world. He was a cowboy all his life, proudly wearing a broad-brimmed hat and his cowboy boots until he could no longer do so.

Ivan believed he came into the world with very little and left it pretty much the same. But his family knows that he lived a rich life filled with determination, perseverance, hard work, family, and much joy, a legacy that lives on in each of us.

Survivors include his wife: Kathleen Gaspers of Lindsay, NE; children: Michael (Anita) Gaspers of Danbury IA; Larry (Elisabeth) Gaspers of Chester NJ; Sharon Gaspers of Plattsmouth, NE; Jerry (fiancé Melissa Cotta) Gaspers of Valley Springs, CA; Barb (Andy) Hrabanek of Battle Creek, NE; Karen Gaspers of Lindsay, NE; Bill (Angel) Gaspers of Lindsay, NE; Jennifer (Juan Carlos Osorio) Gaspers of Chicago, IL; Annette Gaspers of Chicago IL; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren with another on the way; brother: Mark (Diana) Gaspers of Gothenburg, NE; sister: Mary Ann Fix of Ballwin, MO; two sisters-in-law: Linda Gaspers of Evans, CO; Phyllis Gaspers of Norfolk, NE; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
