Alan a dear friend, neighbor and shipmate who one could always count on if you had a need. He had a great sense of humor and was quick to laugh even at himself!

My deepest condolences to Anne, his daughters and all the family. As the neighbor around the corner, I always enjoyed his greetings and appreciated his welcoming me to the neighborhood. A truly nice man.

Alan always had a deep love and respect for Canton...and the people in it. We always looked forward to seeing him around town and at Canton Land Trust events. We are all better off for his efforts in town. Our thoughts are with Anne and all of the Duncan family.

He was my brother, and we lived on Engle Street, New Jersey. Together with the other kids on Engle Street, we had a great childhood. Sledding down the hill behind our house, across the lawn, down the front hill and across the street where we built an ice track and down the hill in our neighbor´s driveway! We played stickball in the street, and kick the can as well. We walked or rode our bikes to Elementary school, about a mile away. Alan was the sports star in the family, with always a position on a Little League team. (I was always on the "farm" team.)

Alan was an educator as a career, and I believe he made a difference to all the kids he taught.

We always had a great time when we vacationed on Webb Lake in Weld, Maine. Our family vacation was always special, and the friends Alan met were always special to him.

I am always special to him, and I will miss him so very much. His last years were so sad, yet I will always think the best of him!

We have been missing Alan as his illness gradually took him from us. He was a man of exceptional kindness and generosity with a most hearty and mischievous laugh that could change in an instant to intense concern and caring at the smallest mention of something troubling. A lovely man. A lovely friend.

Love this man very much. Always will remember spending the holidays in his home and watching him slowly fall asleep in his chair as the evening progressed. What a kind soul and the best father in-law ever.
