ALAN GAGE Obituary
ALAN GAGE
Clinton - Alan G. Gage, 71, died Wednesday, July 9, 2025, in UMass Medical Center after an illness.
He is survived by his wife, Karen A. (Baird) Gage, with whom he would have celebrated 44 years of marriage next month; their children, Julie A. Gage and Kevin A. Gage; a brother, Kenneth Gage; a brother-in-law, Kevin Dauphinais; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Two siblings, Brian Gage and Pamela Dauphinais, predeceased him.
Alan was born and raised in Clinton, son of the late Merrill R. and Janice M. (O'Malley) Gage. A lifelong resident, he was a graduate of Clinton High School, class of 1971, and Fitchburg State College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1975.
For 28 years, he educated countless local students as a middle and high school social studies teacher in Clinton Public Schools, retiring in 2011. Al loved teaching and continued as a substitute teacher after retirement.
An Eagle Scout and lifelong member of St. John's Church, he served as Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of Ancient Order of Hibernians. In addition, he was a Past Exalted Ruler at the former Clinton Lodge of Elks and remained a steady presence after the Lodge merged with the Maynard Elks. Al was a proud Clintonian, who often said that he "bled green and gold" - and was always doing what he could to better others and give back to the community he loved so well. Alongside his friend Dave Goodale, Al most enjoyed raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity over the years, hosting their infamous "Chicken Shoots." Their efforts have earned praise and recognition as Tribute Race honorees and recipients of the George Bailey Award.
Not one to sit still, Al was always on the move. He most enjoyed being outdoors - hiking, kayaking, swimming, and especially skiing. Most of all, he was an incredibly proud father who relished the many accomplishments of his children.
