Alan Smith Lee

Alan Smith Lee passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 6, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ruel and Gloria Lee. Alan grew up surrounded by the love of his parents, grandparents, and siblings, developing an enduring appreciation for simple circumstances, hard work, and faith-values that would guide him throughout his life.
Alan attended Granite High School, where he played football under Coach LaVell Edwards and earned a spot on the varsity team all four years. Following graduation, he briefly attended the University of Utah and worked at Alta Ski Resort. Soon after, Alan chose to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was set apart by his great-uncle, Harold B. Lee. He faithfully served in the Eastern Atlantic States Mission, where he met his future wife, Leslie Kay Grampp.
After returning home from his mission, Alan and Leslie reconnected while attending Brigham Young University, where Alan studied Business Communications and served in the Utah Army National Guard. During his time at BYU, he formed lifelong friendships and strengthened the values that would guide him throughout his life. Alan and Leslie were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 29, 1968, and welcomed their first son, Carter, in early 1970.
After graduating from BYU, Alan and Leslie moved to Virginia, where Alan began his career in Washington, D.C., as they started their family and built lasting memories together. His first position was with the Robert Mullen Company, a public relations firm led by future U.S. Senator Bob Bennett. He later worked for Senator Wallace F. Bennett, and eventually for President Gerald Ford in Washington, D.C., serving as an Advance Man-a trusted role within the Ford Administration. While living in Virginia, they welcomed their second son, Clayton, in 1972.
Eventually, Alan and Leslie made the long journey west to Tucson, Arizona, where Alan built a successful career in banking where he worked for Western Savings & Loan as a branch manager. While in Tucson, they welcomed their first daughter, Chelsea, in 1976. The family later settled in Mesa, Arizona, where Alan continued his work in banking before transitioning into real estate. In 1981, they welcomed fraternal twins, Cameron and Cassidy, and made Mesa their lifelong home, raising their family and establishing deep roots in the community. Alongside his professional pursuits, Alan also shared his expertise as an adjunct professor at several local colleges.
Beyond his many accomplishments, Alan found his greatest joy in time spent with family-working on projects around the house, golfing with friends, sharing stories, and supporting his children and grandchildren in their many pursuits.
Alan will be remembered for his quick wit, tireless work ethic, and generosity. He showed his love through action-always ready to lend a hand or offer support at family gatherings and milestones.
He is survived by his children Carter (Sandra), Clayton (Robin), Chelsea (Brian), and Cassidy; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and siblings Rita (Randy) and Brent (Elaine). He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Leslie; son, Cameron; parents; and brother, Jerry.
A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3025 S. Hawes Rd., Mesa, AZ 85212, on Wednesday, October 29. A viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the service at 10:00 a.m.
