Early Life and Education
Allan Neil Lockett was born in Stamford, Texas, to Tom Lockett and Lenora Munson on August 30, 1950. He was the ninth of ten children and the last son in his family. Allan began his education in Plainview, Texas, before moving to Abilene, where he attended Carter G. Woodson School from third to eleventh grade. He later became one of the first five Black students to integrate Abilene High School, graduating in 1968.
Academic Achievements and Career
Allan earned his Bachelor's degree in Education from Prairie View A&M University and completed a Master's in Counseling at Texas Tech. He began his career teaching history in Amarillo, Texas, before returning to Abilene as a counselor at Abilene High School. In 1976, he joined Madison High School as a counselor, and in 1991, he became principal of Reagan Elementary, a role he held for sixteen years. During his tenure, Allan started an annual faculty appreciation luncheon, always serving custodians and cafeteria staff first as a gesture of gratitude for their dedication and hard work. After stepping down as principal, he continued his service in education as an assistant administrator in the Title I Department at Abilene ISD. Following many years of dedicated service to his community, Allan retired to enjoy traveling and spending quality time with family and friends.
Church and Community Involvement
Allan was ordained as a deacon at a young age at Friendly Missionary Baptist Church, where he actively served in the choir and as director of the youth group. He also took on the role of director of finance. Later, Allan became a long-standing member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and participated in the "Men in Christ" organization.

I'm so very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Lockett. He was a colleague of my dad's and he quickly became a dear family friend. His thoughtfulness of birthday cards and graduation cards was always special to me. He and my dad spent a lot of time together and I'm grateful to him for the friend he was to, Dad especially throughout their years of being administrators. My dad is a funny guy, sometimes relentlessly so. Mr. Lockett always graciously put up with his silly jokes and personality. The thing I remember and love the most is Alan's big smile and big laugh! I always knew when he was visiting. His joy was infectious. My thoughts are with his family and friends and I pray for comfort for all as his life is celebrated and remembered.
