I have known Dr. Marks for probably three decades or more as a medical oncology colleague. Alan had many leadership roles in Florida in the state oncology society, and continued to be active in his retirement. Alan was (past) President of our organization (Florida Society of Clinical Oncology) and served on a number of important committees and was a senior and respected member of the oncology community in Florida. Alan was courteous, distinguished, capable, and was instrumental in navigating the organization from a small group of a few decades ago, to the large vibrant and substantial organization that it is today. Alan visited my practice in Naples, FL in 2019 as part of his role in the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology and it was a joy to meet with him again and that was the last time I saw him. We never know the future.
I attended the funeral service on line via streaming today and learned more about Dr. Marks who I had respected for some decades. He certainly was loved and revered by his family, and I think Stacie (daughter) summed it best, that Alan " left this world better than he found it, that is all any of us can hope for."
