Alan Irving Opheim ObituaryAlan Opheim, age 98, of Spring Park, MN, died peacefully September 16, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born in Minneapolis on July 4, 1927 to Ella Opheim. He was raised in Cooperstown, ND, and earned a scholarship playing basketball and football at the University of North Dakota. He joined the US Navy and was stationed in Yukoska Japan during WWII. In 1972, he founded Aldo Inc., that is being run today by his children. He was known for his artistic abilities in stained glass, carving and drawing.
Al is survived by his children, Kurt Alan (Laurie Breisch) Opheim, Steven Lee (JaNann) Opheim, and Terri Beth Berry; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Maxine Virginia Opheim (nee Hagen) and son-in-law Billy Ray Berry.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 from 1-3 PM at Lake Minnetonka Shores, (in the court atrium), 4559 Shoreline Drive, Spring Park.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Griggs County Historical Society, PO Box 242, Cooperstown, ND 58425, for the restoration of the Opheim log cabin, the first permanent home in Griggs County, ND built in 1879.
