Michael Opheim Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 7, 2025.
Michael Alvin Opheim passed away on October 4, 2025, in Clarksville, Tennessee. He was born on May 6, 1959, to Emily and Divven Opheim in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Michael proudly served as a U.S. Army Signal Officer for seven years and received his bachelor's degree while in the service. Michael completed his Master's of Business Administration at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Before retiring in 2021, Michael worked as a loan officer at U.S. Bank in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He took pride in helping families navigate the home-buying process.
Michael had a lot of great loves in his life: being a father and soon to be grandfather; a hot breakfast; his soft-tail Harley Davidson motorcycle, adorned with yellow flames; 18-holes of golf, even if he was playing poorly; cigars and bourbon, to be taken together; and a sturdy recliner to nap in. Michael was bright; he had a knack for a witty turn of phrase, often in the form of a jingle or rhyme. He cared deeply about community, spending his time supporting Rosendale Boy Scout Troop 734, the Laconia High School golf team, the Democratic Party, and U.S. Army Veterans events. He was outgoing and friendly, often connecting with strangers who then became friends.
Michael was adventurous, spending extensive time in Europe, Asia, and living in Hawai'i, Texas, Montana, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. We will remember him for his sharp mind, unique sense of humor, and love of learning new things.
He is survived by his wife, Annette; daughter, Allison; son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Karla; and his favorite cat, Chi Chi. He is further survived by his siblings: David (Rex), Scott (Hilary), and Nancy. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his younger brother, Dale. We believe he has been reunited with these family members, as well as Sadie, Hank, and Murphy, three of Michael's favorite animal companions.
While he was a wild card at times, there was–and will never be–anyone quite like Michael. We love you.
A Celebration of Life is planned in the near future.
Please visit Michael's tribute wall and share a memory with the family.
