Alan Palmer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Family Mortuary - Alamosa on Feb. 2, 2026.
Alan R. Palmer, 78, passed away on January 29, 2026, at the Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs. Born to Samuel and Loretta (Cromie) Palmer on June 1, 1947, in Plattsburgh, New York, Alan's vibrancy and zest for life were inspiring to everyone he met.

Affectionately remembered by his loving girlfriend, Margie Lewandowski of Moffatt, Alan was a devoted father to his sons Brian Matthew Palmer of Moffatt and Brent Alan (Patti) Palmer of Florida. His spirit will continue to shine through his cherished grandchildren, Amanda (Bryan) Stevens, Chase Palmer, Chance Palmer, Ashley (Chris) Stamm, and Jake (Salina) Palmer. He also leaves behind the powerful legacy that his great-grandchildren, Emma, Collin, Hazel, Braxton, Amberly and Bryana, will carry into the future. Alan is survived by his sister, Joan McCormick, and his brothers, Glenn (Chris) Palmer and Mark (Dorothy) Palmer. He now reunites in peace with his parents, who preceded him in death.

The mark Alan made in his community and his passion for life were as expansive as his many interests. An ardent sports enthusiast, he displayed his talent playing semi-pro basketball with the Rouses Point Rangers-a chapter of his life filled with rich experiences and friendships. After leaving the court, Alan dedicated over two decades to service as a correction officer, where his integrity and strength of character made a lasting impression.

Following his law enforcement career, he managed a farm in the northern part of the San Luis Valley for 13 years, enriching the land and those who worked alongside him. His entrepreneurial spirit soared as he founded "Palmer Outfitters," an outfitting business where his meticulous attention to detail and love for the great outdoors made the enterprise a resounding success for 13 years. Upon retiring, he passed the business to his son.

Alan was the epitome of someone who never stood still. He thrived on being perpetually in motion, channeling his energy into the perfection of his crafts. A perfectionist at heart, he found joy in the outdoors-hunting, fishing, and trapping were not just hobbies but a way of life that spoke to his soul.

The friendships Alan formed throughout his years in outfitting were profound and enduring, with many becoming more like family. His love for his actual family, however, was his crowning attribute. He shared his passions with them, teaching not just skills and hobbies but also the values of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of chasing one's dreams.

Alan R. Palmer's legacy is not just in the successful business he developed or the land that he tended. It is found in the lives he touched, the family he raised, and the friends he cherished. His memory will serve as a beacon of inspiration, urging us all to live fully, love deeply, and embrace every moment with the same gusto that he did.

Per his wishes cremation has taken place at Rogers Family Mortuary and Crematory. The family will host a celebration of life at a later date. To leave online condolences, remembrances and tributes for Alan's family please visit www.RogersFunerals.com.
