I remember Alan as a little boy. His sister was one of my lifelong friends. I'm happy to know he had a long successful life.

Yesterday

When I first became a teacher, Alan and Marian, were two of the first colleagues I met. The friendship was almost immediate. Alan had that booming teacher voice, a perpetual smile, a quick joke, and then a word of wisdom. Over the years, Alan was the go-to guru on anything insurance, representing Boise teachers. As Audrey and Adam came along, they were often included. Then came those national conventions, in which they advocated for Idaho and many professional matters. Alan was a beloved teacher at the Booth School for parenting and pregnant teens on 24th Street. He joked that he was Papa Duck" as he led walks around the neighborhood complete with baby carriages, soon to be moms, and others. He loved those girls to the core of his being and did everything in his power to be their advocate in the School District, the Halls of the Idaho Legislature, and anywhere else when he saw the chance to do so. The world is a little darker today, but his influence lives as that school they supported for all those years, still functions as Cardinal Academy.
