Alan Savage Obituary

Alan Joseph Savage, 78, of the Hudson section of Plains Township, passed away Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, while under the care of the General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Jan. 29, 1948, in Wilkes-Barre, Alan was the youngest of six children of the late Jacob and Constance (Dobitas) Savage. He grew up in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, attended St. Clair School, and graduated from James M. Coughlin High School in 1966, where he was a member of the baseball team.

After graduation, Alan started his professional journey as a cutter for the Prestige Shoe Co., remaining there until the company closed in 1977. He then worked as a stock person and clerk at several Sunshine Markets locations throughout the area, from East End to Moosic. Later, Alan found his place at Benco Dental, where he worked in the warehouse for 15 years until retiring. Even after retirement, Alan continued to serve his community as a school crossing guard for several years at the East Carey Street Crossing by Sheehan's.

Alan was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and Notre Dame Football. One of his most cherished memories was traveling to Notre Dame with his sons to attend a football game, fulfilling a lifelong dream. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout Pennsylvania with his sons.

Alan was a past member of St. Francis Church in Miners Mills until its closure. He was also affiliated with the ITLO Club, Hudson Club, and the P.A.V. It was at one of these clubs that he was introduced to Marge Morgan. The two were married on June 15, 2002, and lived on West Sidney Street before moving to Hudson. Alan and Marge enjoyed traveling and spending time with their families.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia Park; his brothers, Walter, Lawrence, Thomas, and Jacob; and his stepson, Michael Suda.

He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Marge; his sons, David (Wilkes-Barre) and Jason (and wife, Janelle, Plains Township); his stepson, Bill Suda (and wife, Jen, Plymouth); grandchildren, Alexa, Ryan, Andrew, and Bill Suda III; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark St., Plains Township. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday, officiated by Deacon Donald Crane. Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Plains Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alan's memory may be made to the S.P.C.A. of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
