Alan Schachman Sr.

Alan Schachman Sr., of Manitowish Waters, WI, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025 at the age of 85. He was born on July 27, 1940, to Hannah Rose (Levi) Schachman and Bernard Schachman in Philadelphia, PA.
Alan attended Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and, following graduation, studied at Penn State University before entering the United States Air Force in 1959. While stationed at KI Sawyer Air Force Base in Marquette, MI, he met his future wife, Bonnie Mae Smeeth, during a ski trip to Ironwood, MI. Alan and Bonnie were married in February 1966 and moved to Philadelphia, PA, where Alan worked for his father's printing company.
In 1970, Alan and Bonnie relocated to Ironwood, MI, where they became the owners and operators of Ray Smeeth's Sporting Goods. Alan later enjoyed a successful career in insurance with Prudential and Aflac. In 2005, Alan and Bonnie built their retirement home in Manitowish Waters, WI.
Alan loved boating and spending time with his family. He was also a proud member of the Lions Club, Manitowish Waters Chapter.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonnie Mae Smeeth, and his parents, Hannah Rose and Bernard Schachman.
Alan is survived by his brother, Stephen Schachman of Bozeman, MT; his children, Rebecca (Scott) Schuettpelz, Weston, WI, Robynn (Christopher) Bartosz, Waukesha, WI and Alan Jr. (Kathy) Schachman, Saginaw, MI; and his cherished grandchildren: Tyler (Hannah) Schuettpelz, Marissa (Michael) Clarke, Sarah (Blake) Driscol, David Schachman, Alexander Bartosz and Abigail Bartosz.
A celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Manitowish Waters, WI.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Silver Lace Memory Care by Primrose and Interim Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Alan. You were his guardian angels.
