Alan English Smith, passed away on January 5, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He will be remembered as a thoughtful, jovial, and fun-loving man whose curiosity and joy for life left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Above all else, Alan cherished his family. His children were the center of his world, and his love for them was evident in everything he did. He found joy in life's simple and beautiful moments – gazing at the stars, tending to his orchids with patience and care, walking on the beach, and losing himself in music, especially the timeless sounds of the 1960s. A natural sports enthusiast, Alan enjoyed both playing and watching sports and was a devoted fan of San Francisco teams, cheering them on with enthusiasm and loyalty.

Born on April 7, 1959, in Durham, North Carolina, Alan graduated from Jesuit High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Northwestern State University, where he was a devoted, enthusiastic, and proud member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. After college, he moved to San Francisco and built a successful career as a financial planner. His professional journey included work at Sumitomo Bank and Merrill Lynch, and later the establishment of his own LPL practice - an accomplishment that reflected his independent spirit.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Albert G. Smith and Harriet Gurley Smith of Shreveport, Louisiana.

He is survived by his former wife, Claudia Taubman Smith of Dallas, Texas; his beloved children, Samantha Ann Smith of Los Angeles, California, and Jacob Reid Smith of Dallas, Texas; his sister, Susan Smith Erba of Shreveport, Louisiana; and his nephews, Paul F. Erba of Shreveport, Louisiana and David M. Erba of New York, New York.

Alan's humor and sense of wonder will be deeply missed.

Graveside services will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Charleston, MO, at later date.
