Alan Sofinowski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 22, 2025.
Alan Robert Sofinowski, born on November 14, 1939, in White Marsh, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, at the home of his beloved daughter in Partlow, Virginia. His life, spanning 85 years, was a testament to resilience, love, and the importance of family.

Alan was the son of Jacob and Ruth Sofinowski. Raised in the Lutheran faith, he attended churches initially in Dundalk and later in Bachman's Valley, Westminster. His spiritual beliefs remained a cornerstone of his existence, guiding him through life's many challenges. Alan graduated from Westminster High School in 1957. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserve in support of the Vietnam War from 1962 - 1967. This experience instilled in him a deep sense of duty and patriotism that he carried throughout his life. Alan attended courses at Johns Hopkins University in the late 1960's and embarked on his career path as a machinist. His meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic earned him the admiration of colleagues.

Alan and Sharon Sofinowski were married from 1970 - 2009. With this union, he adopted Scott Sofinowski, and in 1972 they welcomed their daughter, Alice Sofinowski. Alan's family was the center of his world. He took particular joy in his role as grandfather to Elena and Taino, cherishing every moment spent with them. Those who knew Alan will remember his enthusiasm for attending golf tournaments as a spectator and his patience and skill with puzzles. He also loved to get together with family to play pinochle. His warm smile, unwavering integrity, and quiet strength left an indelible impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Alan faced his battle with cancer with remarkable dignity and courage.

In his final days, he was lovingly cared for by his daughter Alice and her husband Chris White, surrounded by the family he so dearly loved. Alan is survived by his daughter Alice and her husband Chris White; his grandchildren Elena and Taino; and his siblings Ruth, Patricia, Diane, Charles, and Linda. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Ruth Sofinowski, and his brothers Jacob Jr. and Frank. A private memorial gathering to celebrate Alan's life will be held at the home of Alice and Chris White. Family and friends are invited to come together to share memories and honor his legacy. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Bachman's Valley.
