Born December 23, 1947 in Granite City, he was the son of Earl J. and Mildred L. (Bush) Werner.
A U.S. Army veteran, Alan had worked as a carpenter then boilermaker for over 30 years before retiring in 2000.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Joan Green; two sons, Jason Werner, Alan Werner; step-son, Benjamin Green; two daughters, Wendy Racadio, Brooke Toner; step-daughter, Sara Middlekamp; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters; and two sisters, Judy Werner and Mary Earney.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 5 pm until time of service at 7 pm, March 19 at First Baptist Church in Wood River. Tom Plogue will officiate.
Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
Memorials are suggested to Alton VWF Post 1308 and 5 A's Animal Shelter.
