Anna Potter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Marks Mortuary on Feb. 25, 2026.
Anna Vratsinas Potter, 87, of East Alton, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026.

Born September 24, 1938, in Kalamata, Greece, to John and Fotini Vratsinas,

Anna came to the United States with her parents and grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. While attending college at Little Rock University, she met the love of her life, Mermon H. Potter. They married in 1959, before moving to Pawhuska, Oklahoma, following Mermon's graduation from law school. Anna earned her Bachelor of Science degree and began her career as a teacher before dedicating twenty-five years to public service with the State of Oklahoma. She was active in her community and in her church life, first at St. Thomas Episcopal Church and later at St. Paul's Episcopal Church after moving to Illinois. Throughout her life, Anna enjoyed many hobbies, which reflected her creativity and curiosity. She enjoyed painting, sewing, quilting, woodworking, gardening, reading, traveling, volunteering, and participating in book club. Above all, she cherished time spent with her beloved grandson, Hudson, who was her greatest joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-four years, Mermon H. Potter; her parents, John and Fotini Vratsinas; and her mother-in-law, Ann Pittman.

She is survived by her daughter, Angela Donohoo; her son-in-law, Chris; her grandson, Hudson; her brothers, Gus Vratsinas and Pete Vratsinas of Little Rock, Arkansas; and the extended Donohoo family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Marine Corps Toys for Tots in honor of her late husband's military service and dedication to the organization.

A visitation will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Alton on Monday, March 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by a funeral service.

Interment will be in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Little Rock, AR at a later date.
