Alan Witherspoon, also known as Papa Spoon and Uncle Buzz, passed away on January 10, 2024, at the age of 95 in Boynton Beach, Florida. He was born on September 3, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan. Alan was a loving family man who would go out of his way for anyone. He always put his family first and was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Alan is survived by his children Susan, Jonathan (Esther), and Keisha. He is also survived by his grandchildren George, Autumn, Sean, Michael, Sara, Hannah, Mark, Richard, and Brent. Additionally, he is survived by his cousins David and Theresa and all of his great-grandchildren. Alan was preceded in death by his wife Thomasine and children Holly and Aaron.
Alan attended the University of Florida, where he pursued higher education. He had a successful career in turf management at Royal Palm Polo and as a scientist at American Heritage School. He had a passion for gardening, landscaping, and traveling. Alan cherished spending time with his family and creating lasting memories with them.
A Celebration of Alan's Life will take place on February 4th, 2024, from 10 AM – 2 PM, at the Boynton Beach Inlet. This gathering will be an opportunity for family and friends to come together and honor his memory.
Alan Witherspoon will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy as a devoted family man and his contributions to the field of turf management and science will be remembered fondly. May he rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation, a cause that was close to Alan's heart.
