Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Funeral Home - NewburyportAlbert Gordon Decie, II, age 83, died peacefully late Friday evening, October 31, 2025 at his home in Salisbury with his wife, Vicki (Bradbury Myette) Decie and family by his side. He was predeceased by his first wife, Agnes "Cecilia" (Kronemeyer) Decie in 1988.
Born June 8, 1942, in Newburyport, he was the son to the late Albert G. Decie, Sr. and Mildred (Estabrook Decie) Sargent, and subsequently became the stepson of Malcolm "Sam" Sargent. He graduated from Newburyport High School and then proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an Electrician's Mate from 1964 to 1970. After his honorable discharge from military service, he began his career at AT&T (then NYNEX), first in Pennsylvania, then New Hampshire, and finally in Massachusetts where he retired as a manager in 1996.
He was a passionate steward of the environment and his lifetime illustrated a commitment to the preservation of nature. As such, he was a lifelong member of the Sierra Club and a founder of and activist with Newburyport's Citizens for the Environmental Balance (CEB). Albert was equally dedicated to his Catholic faith and was a longtime parishioner at Star of the Sea Church in Salisbury. His other interests include his love of genealogy, bird watching, gardening and time spent with family. He met the world with quiet steadiness, kindness, charity and a deep love of the natural world.
Albert was a devoted husband and a proud father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Vicki, in addition to two sons, Albert Decie, III of Maryland, and Joseph Decie and wife Nikki of Virginia; a step-son, William Myette of Maine and a step-daughter, Valerie Broderick and husband Shawn of Amesbury; five grandchildren, Haik Decie of California, Cian Decie and Maeve Decie both of Virginia, and Kaelyn Broderick and Fionn Broderick both of Amesbury; a brother, Edward “Ed” Decie and wife Alice of New Hampshire, and a nephew Ed Decie and wife Diane of Maine.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Wednesday, November 5thfrom 2-5 p.m. at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday at 10 am at Star of the Sea Church, 18 Beach Road, Salisbury, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Newburyport.
