Muehlebach Funeral Care - Kansas CityAlbert J. Gormly Jr., affectionately known as Al, embarked on his final journey on December 20, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital, leaving behind a legacy as profound and vibrant as the life he led. Born on July 17, 1931, in Kansas City, Missouri, Albert was the cherished son of Frances Haake and Albert Gormly Sr. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Florence, whose love accompanied him through every joyous and challenging moment. The embodiment of a devoted family man, he now joins his brothers Joe and John Gormly and his grandson Jacob Gormly in eternal rest.
Al's professional life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his career, spanning over thirty years as a purchasing manager at Prier Brass Mfg. Co. His leadership and expert guidance were further recognized when he served as a past president of the Purchasing Management Association. Even after Prier, Al's industrious spirit continued in sales at Gresham Steel and B-S Steel, before he embraced a leisurely retirement that saw him flourish in various roles. His heart was particularly drawn to the greens of Minor Park Golf Course, where he served as a marshal, ensuring that the game was enjoyed by all.
Beyond formal duties, Al poured his generosity into volunteering at PGA tournaments, embodying his love for both golf and community service. His post-retirement years were marked by delightful engagements at Meiners Market and Hy-Vee, where he found particular joy in delivering flowers and groceries—a testament to his penchant for bringing smiles to those around him.
Education was a milestone for Al, who graduated from Lillis High School, and he bore the proud title of Eagle Scout, symbolizing his commitment to service from a young age. A lifetime Kansas City resident, he was a devoted parishioner at St. Catherine’s of Siena Church for six decades, highlighting his faithful approach to life and belief. Albert balanced his professional endeavors with an unwavering commitment to ensuring that his children received a Catholic education, sometimes working two jobs to fulfill this promise.
Al filled the air with laughter and warmth, earning the affection of many who knew him. Everyone loved “Uncle Al”—a sentiment echoed throughout his expansive family and circle of friends. He leaves behind a devoted lineage including his sons, Al Gormly III, Mark Gormly and wife Annette, Kevin Gormly and wife Jennifer and Patrick Gormly; daughters, Kathleen Young and husband Tom, Rita Fiedler and husband Joe, Mary Pleyte and husband Brian, and Diane Batson and husband Tony. His legacy continues with 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, each a testament to his nurturing spirit.
Al was a great enthusiast of bowling and golf and possessed a passion for collecting baseball cards and coins, hobbies that filled his life with joy and connection to others.
The celebration of Al's remarkable life will commence on January 3, 2026, at St. Thomas More Parish, in Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation is set for 9:30 AM, followed by a Rosary at 10:30 AM and Mass at 11:00 AM, culminating with a graveside service at Mount Olivet Cemetery at 12:30 PM. These moments will provide an opportunity for friends and family to gather, share stories, and honor a man whose spirit will forever illuminate their lives.
As Al Gormly Jr. takes his place among the stars, his legacy of love, service, and laughter will continue to inspire those he leaves behind, reminding us of the beautifully simple joys he cherished throughout his life.
