Albert “Al” Alton Martin, age 73, went to be with the Lord on July 6, 2024, surrounded by family. Al was born on January 8, 1951, to Frances Eva Dow (Martin, Sullivan) and Carlton Ellsworth Martin of Gorham, ME. He studied mechanical engineering and completed a degree in Independent Studies in 1984 from the University of Maine.

Al met Esther in May of 1971 before going to join the Navy. In October 1973, Al and Esther were engaged, and married on March 23, 1974. The couple recently shared a trip to Big Bend in south Texas to commemorate their 50th anniversary.

Al began his career in the United States Navy on July 30, 1971, in Portland, ME, which took him to boot camp in Great Lakes, Il. He attended Navy schools in Memphis, TN, and was stationed at Helo squadron in Lakehurst, NJ, NP2 South Weymouth, MA where he became Chief, CNARF New Orleans, LA where he became Senior Chief and later Master Chief, and finally RAIMD Dallas, TX where he retired from service. During his early days in the Navy, Al made two cruises, first a tour of the Mediterranean on the U.S.S Hancock, followed by a tour of the Orient on the U.S.S Roosevelt.

Survivors include his wife, Esther Martin, their three children Jennifer Martin Hudson, Melinda Louise Martin, and Brad Aaron Martin and wife Shelly Isom, grandchildren Preston Lee Hudson, Isaak Avery Hudson, Dylan Christopher Nunez, and Eva Margarette Nunez. Al is also survived by brothers Richard and his wife Cindy Martin, Robert Martin, Kevin and his wife Rhonda Martin, Dennis Martin, and Glenn Martin, his uncle Phillip Martin, as well a many beloved nieces and nephews.

Al was preceded in death by parents Carlton and Constance Martin, Daniel and Frances Sullivan, brother Lester Martin, sister Eva Martin, as well as numerous aunts and uncles.

He will truly be missed by his loving family and friends, as well as fellow members of Heritage Baptist Church in Waxahachie where he served as a deacon and taught countless children in the AWANA program. The lives touched by Al through his ministry, his distinctive sense of humor, and his vivid vocabulary will long carry the imprint of his presence.

Visitation will be held at Heritage Baptist Church in Waxahachie on Friday July 19, 2024, from 10-11 am, with services following directly after at 11.
