Albert Nagy Obituary

Albert William Nagy, Jr., 83, of Hickory, formerly Houston, entered eternal rest Friday, August 23, 2024, in the Donnell House with his family by his side. He was born on February 14, 1941, in Houston, a son of the late Albert and Carmella Bruno Nagy, Sr. Mr. Nagy graduated from Chartiers-Houston High School in 1960, where he was active in sports. There, he met the love of his life, Patricia Seik, and they were married on June 30, 1962. He was employed for 32 years by Western and Southern Life Insurance Company. Mr. Nagy was an "old school" insurance salesman who went door to door to collect insurance payments or find new business. In his later years, he worked for Shober Homes and Specialized Professional Services, Inc. to remain active. Mr. Nagy was always friendly and enjoyed spending time with others and grabbing lunch at the nearby deli. One of his biggest passions was involvement with the Houston Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Nagy joined the department in August of 1963 (61 years of service) and served as the department Chief for 19 years. Mr. Nagy's three children have fond memories of watching their dad leave on a fire call, going to fire department street fairs together, and working the fireman's booth at the Houston Pumpkin Festival. His dedication to the fire department taught them the importance of serving others. He is and will always be a hero in their eyes. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Houston, where he previously served on the Board of Elders and the Property Committee. He was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers. In his younger years, he played with local softball teams, enjoyed many vacations to Myrtle Beach with his family, and was a great Pap Pap to his three granddaughters, who all adored him. He will be missed but never forgotten for his easygoing manner, his calm presence, and his ability to make all who met him feel like they were a friend. He was a loving and giving man whose family was very important to him. Albert is survived by Patricia Seik Nagy, his adoring wife of 62 years. Also surviving are his son, Michael Nagy of Las Vegas, NV; his daughter, Kristin McCarty (Drew) of Hickory; his son, Mark Nagy (Amy) of Burke, VA; three granddaughters Abigail McCarty, Alexia Nagy, and Jillian McCarty; his sister Patricia Morack (Albert) of Canonsburg; brother, Eugene Nagy (Joyce) of Mt. Gretna; brother-in-law, Frank Sedlak of Houston; and many nieces and nephews. Welcoming Albert into Heaven, in addition to his parents, are his sisters, Helen Weller and Doris Sedlak. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home, Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church, 102 North Main Street, Houston, PA. The interment will be private in Forest Lawn Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial contributions in Albert's name to be made to the Houston Volunteer Fire Department, 14 East McNutt Street, Houston, PA 15342. I ran errands for Mrs. Nagy as a kid and quite often, "Sonny"would ask if I wanted to ride along on his afternoon delivery run for Safeway Cleaners. Of course, I did! My passenger seat was an upturned crate as we travelled all the back roads in the tri-state area. Years later, I was able to remember a lot of the shortcuts he showed me that helped me as a collection manager for a local bank.
My father thought very highly of him and his work for the fire department.
I must regrettably tell you I won´t be able to attend his funeral as I am living in a nursing home following a stroke 4 1/2 years ago.
Know my thoughts, prayers and all my love is coming your way, Patty and families, in this difficult time. Phil Weaver
