Albert Chehong Song, 91, of
Trumbull, CT, passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Albert, of Korean descent, lived a life defined by intellect, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to his family. A longtime Trumbull resident, he was a man of many talents, excelling in engineering, music, dance, and the culinary arts.
Albert was a graduate of the Maritime College at Fort Schuyler, NY, where he majored in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and received a master's degree in industrial engineering from New York University. His career led him to Metro-North Railroad in New Haven, CT, where he was pivotal in the acquisition and maintenance of a fleet of trains, ensuring the safety and efficiency of one of the busiest rail networks in the country.
A decorated Korean War veteran, Albert's exceptional linguistic abilities-fluency in English, Korean, Japanese and three other languages-enabled him to serve as a crucial bridge between South Korean and American forces, saving lives through precise communication in dangerous situations. He received Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for his bravery. Beyond his professional achievements, Albert embraced life with passion and artistry. He was a talented DJ with an impeccable ear for music, a masterful ballroom dancer whose grace was matched only by his beloved wife and dance partner, Mary M. Merritt Song, and a skilled chef who took great joy in cooking for family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife Mary; his children Elena Song (husband Paul), Mike Song (wife Kristin), Dr. Miran Song; and his beloved grandchildren Emily, Evan, Ethan (in heaven), Mica Jung-Mai and Zachary Jung-Dai Song. He is also survived by his dear nieces Anastasia Song (wife Susan), Suran Song (husband Bil) and Min-Yong Jung (husband Jong-Myun, her daughter Yeri and son Peter). In addition, Albert will be missed by his loving extended family, Lynda Capobianco (Paul, her son Luke and daughter Sophia) and Marc Salerno (Ellen, his son Patrick).
Albert will be remembered for his wisdom, mental toughness, and unwavering love-a legacy that will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
