Virginia Altena "Tina" Song Obituary

On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Mrs. Virginia "Tina" Song, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord. Born on November 15, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of Rev. Columbus and Mary Ethel Hardin. Tina's passion for music began early in life when she took piano lessons at the Neighborhood House. Her love for music grew, and she soon became a staple in the local church music scene, playing for various church services throughout her life. After graduating from Linden McKinley High School in 1969, Tina worked as a secretary at the Telephone Company before finding love and marrying Francois Song on September 4, 1971. Together, they had three daughters.

In 1987, Tina's deep love for music led her to pursue formal education at the University of Akron, where she studied music while continuing to serve as a church organist at Brown Street Baptist Church, Springfield Baptist Church, North Hill United Methodist Church, and Tallmadge United Methodist Church. Tina graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994, and soon after, she opened Song School of Music in Akron, where she taught piano to many local children.

In later years, Tina moved to Statesboro, Georgia, where she continued her music ministry at Pittman Park United Methodist Church. She played the organ for church services, weddings, and funerals, offering comfort and joy to all who heard her music. Tina is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Columbus and Mary Ethel Hardin; her brothers, Charles, Chris, and Joel Hardin; and her sisters, Ida and Frances Broughton, and her husband of 47 years, Francois.

She is survived by her three daughters, Marcilyne Song, Lisa Song-Herrington, and Jessica Song-Smith, along with eight cherished grandchildren: KJ, Ivy, Karmyn, Arrianna, Jhalen, NyEmiah, Noah, and Jakayyah. Though we take comfort in knowing Tina is at rest and rejoicing in the presence of the Lord, she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 2::00 pm at Pittman Park United Methodist Church in Statesboro with Chaplain Lonnie D. Johnson officiating.

Inurnment will follow at Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
