Funeral services for Albert Joseph "A.J." Thomasson, age 79 of New Harmony, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at New Harmony Baptist Church with Dr. Chris Webb officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at New Harmony Cemetery.
A.J. passed away Friday, October 17, 2025, in Tyler. He was born April 10, 1946, in Tyler to the late Albert Joseph and Myrtle (O'Quinn) Thomasson. A.J. was a longtime resident of Tyler where he was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church. He was a retired manager for Grandy's restaurant and previously was honored to have a 16-year career as a pastor. In his spare time, A.J. enjoyed his zero-turn lawn mower, watching old westerns, Bible studies, and spending time with his beloved family. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce Eberhart, Jo Ann Gonzales, and Frances Bradford; and his former wife, Beverley Thomasson.
A.J. is survived by his wife, DeLayne Thomasson of New Harmony; daughter, Laurel Jones of Tyler; son, Grant Thomasson and wife, Shannon of Tyler; stepson, John Barron of New Harmony; grandchildren, Crystal Jones and husband, Eric; Heath Collen Cochran, and Devon Jordan; great grandchildren, Brave and Amelia; step-granddaughters, Bree Caplinger and husband, Colton and Sara Wallace and husband, Collin; step-great grandson, Alex Caplinger; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Grant Thomasson, Heath Collen Cochran, Devon Jordan, John Barron, Billy Richardson and Lex Richardson.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the New Harmony Baptist Church building fund.
