Funeral services for James "Jimmy" Lee Clayton, age 81 of Mineola, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home Chapel in Lindale, Texas with Pastor Ken Whitten and Pastor Bill Clayton officiating. Interment will follow at Sand Flat Cemetery in Lindale.
Jimmy passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. He was born August 6, 1944, in Atlanta, Texas to the late Malcolm Franklin and Essie Earline (Cross) Clayton. Jimmy has lived in Mineola for the past 14 years where he was a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church and was previously a longtime resident of Atlanta. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was retired having worked at Welch's Propane in Atlanta and with Texas Utilities in Mt. Pleasant. Jimmy enjoyed watching baseball, particularly the Texas Rangers, playing dominoes, working puzzles, and spending time with his beloved family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Malcolm Franklin Clayton Jr.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Dorothy Clayton and family of Center, Texas; daughter, Denise Whitten and husband, David of Mineola, Texas; son, Danny Clayton and wife, Tena of Greenwood, Louisiana; brother, Bill Clayton of Laneville, Texas; sister, Lajuan Tubbs of Rockwall, Texas; grandchildren, Danielle Landry and husband, Joe of Spring, Texas and Jacob Clayton and wife, Sarah of Sandwich, New Hampshire; great grandchildren, Meredith and Henry Landry; and numerous other loving family members and friends. Pallbearers include Keith Clayton, Todd Clayton, Kyle Clayton, C.J. Clayton, David Whitten, and Kevin Clayton; honorary pallbearers are Noah Heitbrink and Mitchell Clayton.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2025, at Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of East Texas.
