Albert L. Violette
WOONSOCKET - Albert L. Violette, 79, of Woonsocket, passed away November 5, 2025 at home. He was the husband of thirty-two years of Glee Violette. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ella
(Fortier)
Violette.
Mr. Violette was a lifelong Woonsocket resident, who graduated from Mt. St. Charles Academy in 1964, and then, after eight years of serving overseas in the military, returned to teach there as Music Director. Al was a combat trained military member in the Air Force, but most of the time he served as a Musical Ambassador, as a saxophonist with the Air Force Bands in Europe and Morocco.
Back in Rhode Island, he established himself with a number of Big Bands, Swing Bands, and Jazz ensembles in New England, including the Jerry Deragon Big Band in Woonsocket, the Arthur Medieros Swing Band in Pawtucket, and Ed Rodriques' Meadowlarks in New Bedford, which is now under the direction of Dan Ferriera in Attleboro.
A career-long member of the Providence Musician's Union, he always played their Cavalcades of Music at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet, and was often seen at public concerts in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Among his favorites were Autumnfest, the Pawtucket Summer Series, Fort Taber, Buttonwood Park, and events held at the mansions of Newport.
Al supported his music with day jobs, first at Hasbro, and then for over three decades at the CVS Distribution Center. He enjoyed running with the Woonsocket Harriers, training for marathons.
Along with his wife, Glee, he leaves a large family, including his daughter, Joanna Allard and her husband, David; his sons, Brian Violette and his wife, Tracy, Stephen Violette and his partner, Omi Gonzalez, and Thomas Violette and his wife, Kelly; his grandchildren, Kara Labbie, Seamus Lafferty, Emily Allard, Brandon Violette, Katrina Violette, Jaden Violette, Nevanysh Morrabal, Tyler Violette, and Carson Violette. He also leaves two great-grandsons, and a great-granddaughter on the way; his beloved sister, Claire Rankl; and his nephews, Jeffrey and Kenneth
His funeral will be held Sunday, November 16, 2025 beginning with visitation at 1PM followed by a sharing of remembrances at 3:30PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
